Fundamental Painters of Mannierism
This is a list of the most outstanding and representative painters of Mannerism in the 16th century. It is the transition between the harmony, simplicity, and naturalness of the Renaissance and the dramatism, sophistication, and theatricality of the Baroque.
The name is due to the fact that the artists show exaggeratedly their "maniera," their style, and their virtuosity.
Clarification: Although we find many works with mannerist characteristics in the sixteenth-century Venetian School, we only include here the two painters of that school who are considered the most mannerist: Tintoretto and Veronese.
