Fundamental Painters of Abstract Expressionism
This is a list of the most outstanding and representative painters of Abstract Expressionism (1940 and 1950), the art that abandons figuration to transmit emotions in the "most direct way possible."
We highlight Roberto Matta and Arschile Gorky as forefathers of the movement. Their art is the bridge between Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism (psychic automatism from figurative to total abstraction,)
This is a dynamic list since we will be adding more artists and more information to it
over time.
