Fra Filippo Lippi, Teacher of Botticelli

Six Paintings, One Concept

Often, what amazes us most when we stop before a Madonna by Fra Filippo Lippi is not only its extraordinary humanity, sweetness, elegance, and beauty, but fundamentally that "it is not a work by Botticelli." Yes, in Lippi's work, the work of the Renaissance genius is clearly announced.

Botticelli was a pupil of the friar in his workshop in Prato (a town near Florence) and inherited from him that model of feminine beauty that we find in his great works, among the most representative ones of the Quattrocento.
