Fundamental Painters of Neoclassicism

This is the list of the most representative painters of Neoclassicism (from the 1760s to the 1830s). It is the movement that was born when the French Revolution was coming, and it imposed itself over Rococo, expressing the new ideals that aspired to order, harmony, purity, the exaltation of moral values, and rationality.

As the French Revolution implied an exaltation of emotions and feelings such as nationalism, soon Romanticism (which coexisted with Neoclassicism in the first decades of the nineteenth century) was also born. And that is why we see that some neoclassicist painters also have their romantic periods.

This is a dynamic list, and we will continue adding artists and more information.
