Canaletto, the Painter of Venice
Six Paintings. One Concept

When we see a very realistic cityscape of Venice in a museum, we think of Canaletto and it is very likely that it is indeed Canaletto's. His works are the main representatives of a type of landscape called Veduta (meaning "view"). It is the genre of panoramic city views painted with extreme detail.
The Veduta is like a "postcard." And in its time it used to function as such, since wealthy travelers often bought such paintings as souvenirs of their trip.
