After painting the series de water lilies in his garden of Giverny, Monet travelled to Venice in 1908, where he painted, started or sketched a total of 37 canvasses. Most of them ended in his study.
Churches, monumental buildings, combined with water and its infinite reflections and the sun and the color of Venice. When Monet arrived and found that beauty that was a challenge for an Impressionist he said: "¡It is too beautiful to be painted! ¡It is untranslatable!"
But he was Monet.
