Van Eyck is not the inventor of oil painting, but he developed the modern technique of oil painting, a favorite of painters to this day.
Oil became crucial at that time for the faithful representation of reality: it achieves brighter and more vivid colors, and is ideal for working with every detail with precision, since due to its optimal drying quality, it allows to make corrections on the canvas. The painting is no longer ruined since it is no longer necessary to dry it in the sun.
