Antoine Watteau is the pioneer of a genre called Fête Galante. It is a subgenre of the genre painting (costumbrista painting). Those works became popular during the Rococo due to a very simple reason: they were the spirit itself of Rococo.
The aristocrats have fun and flirt without a worry in elegant gardens or in the country. Idealized scenes, with a naif touch where everything is sophistication and sensuality. A party that would end with the French Revolution.
