Six Paintings. One Concept

82 Portraits and 1 Still Life is a series of one of the most important living artists, David Hockney. The paintings are all of the same size, painted in the same time frame of 3 days and with uniform elements as the “setting” is maintained once and again.

There is a still life because a sitter could not attend and the artist wanted to paint anyway. The 82 portraits have a very similar format and due to this, the artist is challenged to outline the psychological features of the portrayed people. “I don't do celebrities; photography does celebrities. My friends are my celebrities,” says Hockney, who also affirms that painting the essence of someone you know is easier.

But it also has a trick: the more complex features have to be captured in the simplest way possible.
