Six paintings. One concept

Caravaggio imposed the use of contrast of lights and shadows (chiaroscuro) used aggressively and dramatically, highlighting the harsh realism of his characters and the dramatic tension of the scene.

He achieved that by making light enter violently and diagonally and focusing it in some fundamental points, leaving the rest of the painting in darkness (“tenebroso” in Italian means “dark, gloomy, mysterious.”).
