Six paintings. One concept

Defined drawing, with a well-marked border, plain colors in large surfaces. Perspective is not important. Asymmetrical framing and partial views. Great capacity of synthesis. There are no “realistic” representations, but “expressive” ones.
We have just described the posters of Lautrec; but at the same time, we could be describing the Japanese woodblock prints of the 18th century. They had a strong influence on the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, and their influence can be clearly seen in Lautrec’s posters —he painted 33— with which he described the world of entertainment, parties and joy of the La Belle Époque. Lautrec elevated these posters that promoted shows to the category of works of art.
