“Inspiration is television”

Andy Warhol

The themes in the works of Andy Warhol are the products that come from mass culture, the world of consumption and the media.

Warhol tried to depersonalize his works by producing in series (in opposition to the “personal” works of his contemporaries, the Abstract Expressionists such as Pollock). He achieved the revolutionary effect of showing that all that world of icons of consumption (such as soda or a pop star), all that so “superficial” and massive from every day are part of a great work of art in which we are all immersed.

Art is not only in the artist atelier in the museum of the academies. Art is in the gondolas of the supermarket or in television.

Andy Warhol changed the vision of the world. And although this provocation has many detractors, many also consider him the most important artist of the second half of the 20th century.
