Six Paintings. One Concept

Amedeo Modigliani is a striking example of how modernity can be applied to a traditional genre such as the nude. Firstly, his paintings looked towards the future, while also addressing the past (the fascination with primitivism): and we can see a strong influence of ancestral and exotic cultures, fundamentally in the synthesis, the economy of resources, and the angular features. And secondly, in the use of distortion to achieve expressiveness. A distortion that puts distance between the figure and the real model and brings up humanity.
Modigliani moved further and further away from the "real" human figure, and his images achieved such an exceptional sensuality that it was scandalous for its time.
