Klimt and Gold

Six paintings. One concept

One of the characteristics that stands out in Klimt's work is the gilding that we find in his most famous works. He used the technique "gold leaf" which consists in applying a very thin sheet of this metal to the object to be decorated. (Whether it is a piece of furniture, a statuette, an altarpiece, a piece of goldsmith's work, or even architectural surfaces.)

Klimt amazes with this technique applied on his canvases and becomes a very clear example of why we say that there are many ornamental, decorative details in Modernism. (The movement to which Klimt belonged, also called "Art nouveau")
